Abstract: Based on revisionary studies of the fossil fruits and seeds records, this paper reviews the progresses in palaeocarpology from four aspects: (1)the history of studies on the fossil fruits and seeds of angiosperm; (2)the latest developments and future directions of palaeocarpology; (3)the methods of studies on palaeocarpology; (4)the research scope and significance of palacocarpology. In addition, several important research achievements in this field are introduced. Because palaeocarpology plays a critical role on the palaeobotany, palaeoecology and palaeoclimate, the investigation of fossil fruits and seeds is very important and needs more attention.
