Abstract: Suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) has been widely used in medical research but less in plant science up to date. In this paper we review the application of SSH in plant research, including research into plant development, differential expression of genes induced by environmental stress and/or artificial control, differential expression in tissues and mutants. SSH may play a more important role in the discovery and cloning of new genes in plant research.
