AROMA CONSTITUENTS OF CANANGA ODORATA

Abstract: The essential oil (Ylang-Ylang oil) of Cananga odorata from Xishuangbanna in Yunnan province was examined in detail by means of capi-llary GC/MS/DS on Finnigan-4510 type.The physical properties of the essential oil were the following: n23/D 1.5039, d21/21 0.9144, [a]21.5/D-45.14°. As the result, 22 compounds were ide-ntified. The major compoqents were β-caryophyllene (33.00%), γ-muurolene (19.82%), humulene (7.69%), geranyl acetate (6.21%), bergamotene (5.40%), benzyl benzoate (5.33%), farneso1 (4.75%), farnesene (3.29%),geraniol (2.48%), P-cresyl methyl ether (2.41%) .It was also discussed that how to improve the quality of the Ylang-Ylang oil from Xishuangbanna in Yunnan province.
