Abstract: Hevein, a small (4.7 kD) monomeric chitin-binding protein in the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis ), is a kind of lectin with antifungal activity, and plays an important role in the latex coagulation through forming bounds between rubber particles by fixing to the N-acetyl-glucosamine (GLcNAc) groups borne by a 22 kD receptor protein on the envelope of these particles.
