Abstract: We summarize five main problems in establishing a DNA fingerprinting database of new Chinese maize cultivars: choice of maize varieties, choice of molecular techniques, problems of simple sequence repeat (SSR) techniques, choice of SSR markers and efficiency in techniques. We present possible solutions and discuss the prospect and main applications for the database.
