In this paper,Psammosilene tunicoides,an endemic species to China, was cytologically studied for the first time. The morphology of the nuclei at resting stage was categorized to be simple chromocentre type. The morphology of mitoticprophase chromosomes was categorized to be the interstitial type.28 chromosomes were observed at the mitotic metaphase, and 14 bivalent chromosomes were observed at diakinesis. So,the basic chromosome number was confirmed to be x=14.Psammosilene tunicoides is different from Silene rubicunda in the basic chromosome number and the morphology of the nuclei at resting stage and mitoticprophase chromosomes, because Silene rubicund has the basic chromosome number of x=10 and 12,and its nuclei at resting stage and mitoticprophase chromosomes is sparsely diffuse type and continuous type respectivrly.

Abstract This paper deals with the karyotype analysis of 3 species of Curculigo from China. The karyotype formulae are as follows: 1 ) C. crassifolia 2n= 2x = 18 = 10m(4SAT) + 8sm 2) C. capitulata 2n= 2x= 18 = 10m(2SAT) + 8sm 3) C. sinensis 2n=2x=18= 8 m(3SAT) + 10sm(2SAT) Among them, the karyotype of C. sinensis S. C. Chen are reported for the first time. The karyotypes of 3 species of this genus fall into "2B" type, but the karyotype of C. sinensis might be more asymmetrical than C. crassifolia and C. capitulata based on their asymmetry indexes.

Abstract The meiotic configurations at metaphasc I show often one chain or ring quadrivalent in hybrids between CV. Fengkang No. 13 and Beijing Red No. 1 , this indicates that the two chromosomes are involved in one reciprocal translocation. 21 monosomic plants of Beijing Red No. 1 were used as female parents in crosses with Fengkang No. 13. All monosomic families F1 PMCs at metaphase I were observed to analyze the chromosomal configuration. The meiotic behaviour of monosomic offspring shows different chromosome configurations depen-ding on whether the monosomic chromosome is or is not involved in a translocation. Configurations at metaphase I of monosomic 4B and 1D in F1PMCs exhibit 19 bivalcnts and 1 trivalent, without any univalent. Configurations at metaphase I of monosomic families F1 except mono-4B and 1D exhibit 18 bivalcnts, 1 Quadriva-lent and 1 univalent. The results obtained indicate clearly that the two chromoso-mes involved in this reciprocal translocation are 4B and 1D.

Abstract The present paper reports the numbers of chromosome and karyotypes in 6 species of genus Tupistra. It is found that all species reported are diploid and the numbers of chromosome are 38. The formula of karyotype in T. wattii is 2n=2x=38=38m, and T. longipedunculata 2n= 2x= 38=28m+10sm, T. auran-tiaca 2n=2x=38=22m+16sm, T. fungilliformis 2n= 2x= 38 = 18m + 2sm+ 12st+ 6t, both T. chinensis and T. yunnanensis are 2n= 2x= 38 = 24m+14sm with karyotypes 2B, but they are different each other in the positions of sm chromoso-mes. The karyotypes of T. wattii, T. longipedunculata, T. aurantiaca, T. chinensis and T. yunnanensis are monomodal while T. fungilliformis is bimodal. Tupistra and Aspidistra are two related genera. Tupistra is more primitive and Aspidistra is more advanced. It seems that T. fungilliformis is a transitive taxon between Tupistra and Aspidistra.

Abstract to have classified the vegetation in Qiaojia dry-hot river valley of Jinsha River in Yunnan systematically by the method of French-Swiss phytosocio-logical school, we have got a result that the local vegetation is composed of one order, two alliances, four associations hierarchically: Dodonaeo-Heteropogonctalia contorti I . Phyllantho-Heteropogonion contorti 1. Barlerio-Heteropogonetum contorti 2. Arthracio-Coriarietum nepalensis 3. Calotropetum giganteae II . Opuntion monacanthae 4. Selaginllo-Opuntietum monacanthae This result has been verified by the method of hierarchical agglomerative clas-sification (Group-average). We have described environmental, floral and ecological characters of the local vegetation minutely in this paper. A vegetational comparison between Qiaojia and Yuanmou dry-hot river valleys has been also given here.

Abstract In June 1984, we found a new Vacciniun in the mountain slope of Fenyi, Jiangxi Province. It is very similar to V.bracieaium Thunb., but possesses pinkish flowers with narrower corolla tube. But these two discriminating characters are not easily discernible on the herbarium specimens. Since they occur together in the same niche, they are probably very similar in ecological preferences. A mass collection of a population was carried out in transect covering a space of 20 X 50 meters on the mountain slope. Quantitative measurements of two chara-cters, namely, the diameter of corolla tube and the number of flowers per inflo-rescence, were made, and the resulting data were treated statistically together with the colors of flower by methods of pictorialized scatter diagram ( Fig. 1 ) nnd standard deviation (Fig. 2). An analysis of these diagrams indicates that the diameters of corolla tube of the two taxa, though somewhat overlap, have different tendencies in variation pattern.

Abstract Three C18-diterpenoid alkaloids were isolated from Aconitum forre-stii Stapf collected in Lijiang area, Yunnan province, at the altitute of 3200 m, two known alkaloids, aconosine( 1 ), dolaconitine( 2 ), and one new alkaloid, lico-nosine A ( 3 ) , whose structures were determined based on spectroscopic evidence. It is interesting to note that liconosine A (3) , whose structure feature is dealkyled and with N=C double bond, appears to be unique in the C18-diterpenoid alkaloids. More than interesting is that the chemical components of this plant is different according to its growing altitute. The once studied Aconitum forrestii Stapf collected in Lijiang area, Yunnan province, at the altitute of 3500 m, con-tained thirteen C19-diterpenoid alkaloids, which indicates that difference in plant growing altitute leads to different chemical types. Since C19-diterpenoid alkaloids are more evolved than G19-type, the above result will possibly be significant for chemical ecology.

Abstract The Agrobacterium strains pACK403 and pACK-404, in which the chimeric coat protein gene of tobacco mosaic virus and NPT II gene were inserted into the T-DNA region, were used to transform the leaf discs of tobacco special SRl and special G28 (haploid) with cocultivation method. The transformed discs were cultured on the medium containing sodium cefotaximatc 500mg/l and kanamycin 300mg/l to induce shoots, then the shoots were cut and cultured on the medium containing sodium cefotaximate 500 mg/l and kanamycin 100mg/l to induce roots. The results of Nopaline detection, the gene expression determination of TMV coat protein, and the resistant test of transgenic tobacco plant against TMV infection showed that this method can be reliably used to introduce foreign genes into tobacco plant and that the TMV coat protein genes have been expressed in transgenic tobacco plant. Under the strong infection condition, the transgenic tobacco plant could delay the presence of disease symptom of TMV for 4 to 25 days.

Abstract The growth rate was 54.0 mg D.W./1/day and saponin content was 5.37% for original culture callus from Panax notoginseng, As we considered low growth rate of P. notoginseng callus and saponin content, the suitable KT concentration and 2, 4-D concentration should be 0.7 ppm and 2.5 ppm respectively when the different concentration of KT and 2, 4-D were added in to medium. Coconut milk (CM) and lactalbumin hydrolysatc (LH) had more efficent nutrient regulation in the callus culture. 20% CM and 0.7% LH were therefore more suitable both growth and saponin content respectively. Five fine clones had been selected from twenty-one clones of P. notoginseng callus, amony which No. 04 which growth rate was as high as 219.2 mg D.W./1/day and that saponin content 12.8 was finest. The growth rate of the callus was reached as high as 220 mg D.W./I/day through the studies on metabolism regulation in callus culture of P. notoginseng and this was four times as that of the original culture callus. The total saponin content in the callus was 13% which was 2.4 times as that the original culture callus and as three times of the original plant. The results confirmed that the totipotency of secondary metabolism in culture cell of P. notoginseng might be regulated.

Abstract Three hybridomas, F2E6, F1B9, F3G6, which secreted monoclonal anti-zeatin riboside antibodies, were produced from two successive fusions of BALB/c spleen cells with Sp2/0 myeloma cells. The mice had been hypsrimmuni-zed with zeatin riboside-bovinc serum albumin conjugate for about 6 months and the positive hybridomas were screened by indirect enzyme-linked immunoabsorbent assay. Among these hybridomas, F2E6 secretes antibody of the IgG1,both F3G6 and F1B9 secrete the IgM. Two of the monoclonal antibodies, F2E6, F3G6, were characterized by ELISA and found that the detection limits were 0.05 pmol(~18pg) of zeatin riboside and the measuring ranges extended from 0.05-50 pmol.
