Abstract: Abstract The present paper deals with the taxonomical history and the range of Gonatanthus (Araceae) which in modified Engle's phylogenic system of Araceae which belongs to the subtribe Steudneriae of tribe Steudnereae from subfamily VII Colocasioideae. The subtribe Steuneriae includs 3 genera: Steudnera, Remusatia, Gonatanthus. The latter is distinguished from Remusatia by the combination of its inflorescences produced with the leaves and the unilocular ovaries with basal placentations. Two species of the genus Gonatanthus are intro-duced G. pumilus (D. Don) Engl. et Krause and a new species G. yunnanensis H. Li et A. Hay which is described and illustrated.
