Abstract: Psammosilene tunicoides W. C. Wu et C. Y. Wu is a famous medical herb in Yunnan province. It is usually used as anodyne and haemastatic. The saponins are abundant in its root and possess physiological activities of analgesia, counteracting inflammation, bactriostasis. Two new oleanane type-triterpene glucosides I and II were isolated. Their structures were determined as 28-β-D-glucopyranosyl( 1-3 )-β-D-glucopyranosyl( 1 - 6 ) -β-D-glucopyra-nosyl-3α, 16α-dihydroxy-12 ene-23-dioic acid and 28-β-D-glucopyranosyl 1-6 [β-D-glucopyranosvl l - 3 ] -β-D-glucopyranside-3α, 16α-dihydroxy-12-ene-23-dioic acid, respectively. The two saponins and their sapogenins are all new natural compounds.
