Abstract: Taxodiaceae Warming consists of 19 species belonging to 9 genera (excl, Sciadopitys), of which 5 genera and 11 species are endemic to China and its neighbouring regions. The cytolpgical studies on the family were initia-ted in the early years of this century. To-date, karyotypic analyses for most of the genera(excl.Athrotaxis) have been made. The karyotypes of them:that of Cryptomeria,Glyptostrobus,Taxodium(T. mucronatum, "2A"), Metase-quoia and Sequoia semperuirens-AA belong to Stebbins' (1971) "1A" type of karyotypic asymmetry; that of Sequoiadendron, Cunninghamia and Sequoia semperuirens-B to "1B"; Taiwania to"2B".The type "1B" may be a new one in higher plants beacause it has not been found (Stebbins 1971).

Key words: Cryptomeria, Athrotaxis, Taiwania, Sciadopitys
