Abstract:

Since 1991, the word ‘arealtype’ has been frequently appearing in the literature of Chinese floristic geography. This word, which was originally intended to denote ‘area type’ or ‘distribution type’, is actually a wrongly coined term in English, very likely derived from the German word ‘Arealtyp’.

Key words: Distribution type, English equivalent, Floristic geography, Scientific terminology
