Abstract

Abstract: The roots of Tupislra aurantiaca Wall et .Backer is a folk medicine for treating stomachache in Yunnan. Six spirostane sapogenins (A-F) were obtained from crude sapogenin by column chromafography. Sapogcnin A and D were identificd as 3-epiruscogcnin (1 ) and 3-cpi-neoruscogenin (2 ) respectively. Sapogenin C (tupisgenin) and D (aurantigenin) are new compounds, the struc- tures of them have been suggested as (20s, 22s, 25s) -22, 25-epoxy-5-furosten- lβ, 3α, 26-triol (3 ) and (25s)-spirost-5-en-1β, 3α, 25-triol (4 ) respect- ively, hased on the analysis of IR, MS, 1H NMR and l3C NMR spectra.
