Abstract: The genus Maytenus was established in 1782 by Molina and Gymnosporia in 1834 by Wight & Arn. There are 325 species of both have been recorded in the whole world (Airy-Shaw, 1973) and 8 species from China (One is Maytenus, seven are Gymnosporia) .In recent years, some of new species were discovered in China. Up to now, 23 native species and there is also a variety have been verified.
