Five sesquiterpenoids and one phenolic glycoside have been isolated from the dried branches of Michelia lacei and their structures were elucidated as(+)-alloaromadendrane-4α,10β-diol (1),D-aromadendrane-4β,10α-diol (2),spathulenol (3), parthenolide (4),11,13-dehydrolanuginolide (5) and syringin (6) by spectral means respectively. Compounds 1-3 were aromadendrane-and alloaromadendrane-type sesquiterpenoids which were first isolated from the genus of Michelia. Their chemotaxonomic values are also discussed briefly in this paper.

Using the 2×2 contigency table and different indices, the interspecific associations of main shrub populations in Alsophila spinulosa community in Yongding, Fujian were analyzed. The result of X2 test shows that the imterspecific association is not obviously correlative in most of the species-pair, except the minority species-pair. After the association coefficient (AC) and the percentage of co-ocurrence (PC)were calculated, there was closely the plsitive association among Syzygium buxifolium and Maesa japonica, Rosa sp. and Eurya nitida, Ardisia japonica and Maesa japonica, Cyclobalanopsis glauca and Ilex chinensis. It shows that there are similar in ecologcal characteristics and habitat among these four species-pairs

Partial rbcL gene segments(1137bp) were sequenced in species from Saccharum and its related species, including one Arundinaceum and one Pennisetum purpureum sample. Sequence vqriation of rbcL gene in Saccharum and related species were found to be highly conservative, and identical sequences were presented between Saccharum and Miscanthus, and Narenga and Miscanthus, while sequences of some individuals from same genus had some variation. The results suggest that rbcL gene is not a good genetic marker for the phylogenetic study of Saccharum and related species.

The tropical rain forests dispersed over Hainan Island, southern China and those occurring in Xishuangbanna, southwestern China were comparatively studied. The main points of the study are as follows: 1.According to our statistics of the species percentage and importance value in community, the lowland rain forest and tropical monsoon forest on Hainan share the same dominant families with the tropical rain forest in Xishuangbanna, suggesting that the forests in the two regions are floristically common in nature.

The present paper reports artificial culture of Erigeron breviscapus (Vant.) Hand. - Mazz. for the first time and discusses the method of sexual propagation and action-orientation prospects. In order to protect the wild resource and into practice the continuous development possibly of medicinal material. We study out use sexual propagation to solve the source of plants and the same time have to consider reducible production costs, especially in development of broad scale artificial cuture, the seedling grow from seeds will be lower costs more less tissue culture. It is better to know the basis of growth habit and biological charatcer, we formulate several ways of culture the plants in season, the method will be benefit to push alone the artificial culture and accumulative base of information.

A trypsin inhibitor named TCTI was isolated from the rhizomes of Tinospora crispa (Menispermaceae) by trichloroacetic acid precipitation, salting out, chromatography on trypsin-Sepharose 4B and SHyperTM10 FPLC column, preparative PAGE and electroelution. The relative molecular weight of TCTI was 10.0kD by TSDS-PAGE. The inhibition of trypsin by the TCTI was competitive, with a Ki value of 2.08×10-7mol/L(BANPA as substrate) and the mole ratio was about 1:3.5. TCTI was heat- tolerating. When heated up to 100C for 60 min, it still had 93% residual activities. On the other hand, TCTI can be easily crystalized under lower temperature.

In this paper, the chromosome numbers of two genera Nouelia and Leucomeris (Compositae) are first reported. In Nouelia insignis, 10 populations are studied. The result shows that the chromosome number in different population is consistent, 2n=54, which should be sexiploid. There is only one species of Leucomeris distributed in China. The chromosome numbers of Leucomeris decora is the same as Nouelia insignis 2n=54. Both genera have the same chromosome mumbers, which are also different from the other genera in tribe Mutisiinae. In cytological level, combining some morphological and distribution information, it probably implies that Nouelia is a natural group and there are close relationships between Nouelia and Leucomeris. Nouelia may be descendant of old plants. They developed polyploids for surviving in changing environments.

Leaf epidermis of 36 species representing 19 sections of Camellia(Theaceae) was examined under light microscope (LM). Among them, 30 species representing 18 sections were re-examined by scanning electron microscope(SEM). The results indicate that the shapes of upper and lower epidermis cell of these plants are irregular. The stomatal apparatuses belong to the Cyclocytic type, existing only in lower epidermis. The characteers of leaf epidermis under SEM are as follows: stomatal shape is shuttle or long ovate; innermargin of outer stomatal ledge is smooth or sinuolate or wave; cuticular membrane near stomatal apparatuses is even or wrinkled and its surface is smooth or covered with some kinds of ornament. These characters can be used to distinguish species or varieties of Camellia, but do not have correlation with morphology.

Anthers are tetrasporangiate. The development of anther walls conforms to the dicotyledonous type. The tapetum cells have dusl origin and are similar to the glandular type. There are two middle layers.

The pollen grains of 13 species belonging to 4 genera of Stachyuraceae and Staphyleaceae were examined by light and scanning electron microscopes. Some of them were reported or examined by scanning electron microscope for the first time. The pollen grains examined here are subspheroidal to spheroidal;3-colporate(Tapiscia pollen is 3-colpate). The size and exine sculpture of pollen grains in these two families are different to some extent. The pollen size of Stachyuraceae is 18-28.2×17.5~26.5um, smaller than that of Staphyleaceae, which is 28~40×28.5~40.5um(Tapiscia pollen is very small, only 13.5~17.9×12.5~18um). The wall exine of Stachyuraceae is foveolate sculpture but that of Staphyleaceae is finely reticulte. As far as the pollenmorphology is concerned, two families are related to some extent. Their phylogenic relationships, however, need to be studied by comparison with other families such as Dilleniaceae, Actinidiaceae and Theaceae.

Flower eaten by ethnic people in Yunnan are investigated and studied through ethnobltanical approaches. The results show that there are 74 families, 178 genera, 303 species of edible flowers in Yunnan. It is the first report of all edible flower species occurring in the province. The geographic distribution and ecological environment of edible flowers are investigated based on field surveys. Every ethnic group and the Han Chinese in Yunnan like to collect and eat edible flowers. The edible parts, collecting , processing, preparation and cooking methods of edible flowers among different groups are distinct from each other. The development potential of edible flowers has been analyzed. Further studies on edible flowers are suggested and discussed. An appendix, including local name ,distrbution, edible parts, processing and cooking methods, and other information, is attached to the present paper.
