Abstract: The analgesic experiments were made on rats by the thermal stimulating-tail method, on mouse by "Hot-plate" method. Intraperitoneal injection of total saponins extracted from Panax notoginseng, at a dose of 400 mg/kg in rat, of 100mg/kg in mice, ralsed the pain threshold significantly (p<0.01). In the experiment on mouse by "Hot-plate" method, there was a synergistic action between San Chi saponins and morphine. In addition, San Chi saponins admi-nistered intrsmuscularly at a dosage of 100mg/kg significantly lessened the frequency of "Writhing" response induced by 0.6% acetic acid in mice, at a dosage of 200mg/kg, lessened the numder of "writhing" mouse (p<0.001), and the analgesic rate was 7356.
