The pollen grains of 37 species belonging to 16 genera of 7 families, i.e.,Stachyuraceae,Dilleniaceae,Actinidiaceae,Saurauiaceae,Ochnaceae,Staphyleaceae and Theaceae were examined by light and scanning eectron microscopes,Sone species were examined by scanning electron microscope or reported for the first time.The result showed that most pollen grains are 3-lobed circular or sub-3-lobed circular in outline in polar view,the shape varies from suboblate to subprolate but most are subspheroidal to spheroidal.

From the fruits of Gleditsia delauayi Franch.,a new triterpenoid saponin GS_C′was isolated and its structure was determined to be 3-0-β-D-xylopyranosyl(1→2)-a-L-arabinopyranosyl(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-28-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl(1→3)-β-D-xylopyranosyl(1→4)-a-L-Rhamnopyranopyl (1→2)-[a-L-rhamnopyranodyl(1→6)]-β-D-glucopyranosyl echinocystic acid.Complete assignments of1 H and 13 C spectra of CS-C′were achieved by 2D NMR spectra, such as TOCSY ,1H-1H COSY, HMQC,HMQC-TOCSY,HMBCand ROESY.

The hypocotyl of D.sophia was cultured to study the effect of some factors on the rate of bud regeneration.The results showed that the rate of hypocotyl differentiating was improved via a preculture of five-day period with the medium containing 2,4-D;AgNO3(1.7mg/L)could greatly improve the differentiating rate of hypocotyl;the best hormone combination wqs 2.0mg/L6-BA+0.2mg/L NAA when 1.7mg/L AgNO3 was added to this medium; the hypocotyl of yillow seedlings was more sensitive to hormone than that of green seedlings,its differentiating rate could reach as high as 86.05%.When the regeneration buds were transferred 1/2 MS+0.5mg/L NAA+0.5mg/L IBA,the rate of regeneration roots reached 100%

Pollen morphology of 25 species of 8 sections of the genus Arisaema was studied by means of scanning electron microscope.In the 25 species,12 species were examined for the first time,and 11are endemic to China.Pollen morphology of the species is basically uniform,i.e.spherical,inaperturate,intectate and spinulose.However,the diameters of pollen grains,the length and density of spinule and ornamentation among spinules are variable and significant in identification of species.

Hypocotyls from Cucumber and Phaseolus inoculated on Murashige and Skoog(MS)culture medium for 4 days,formed adventitious roots on morphologically lower side.The rooting capacity of each segment derived from three regions of each hypocotyl was different.The rooting speed on the morphologically lower side of segments which were inserted upside down is faster for one day to two days than which were inserted upright in the culture medium.

The sequences of nrDNA internal transcribed spacers(ITS)(including 5.8S rDNA)of 9 species and 2 varieties in Sect.Sphenanthera,4 species in Sect.Begonia were examined and analyzed B.cirrosa (sect.Coelocentrum),B.henryi(Sect.Reichenheimia)as outgrorp.The length of these sequences is 648-743bp,and the aligned length of ITS region is 756 position,which provides 26.41% variable sites and 10.11%phylogenetical informative sites when gaps are treated as missing.Six most parsimonious trees,with length of 286,consistency index(CI)of 0.8287 and retention in dex(RI)of 0.7841 were obtained by PAUP 4.0b8 analysis.

3-nucletide sequence modes were extracted from the mRNA sequences of glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferases(GPAT)from different chill-resistance plants,squash(Cucurbita moschata),pea(Pisum sativum),cucumber(Cucumis sativus),Arabidopsis thaliana,redflow(Carthamus tinctorius),spinach(Spinacia oleracea)and figleaf gourd(Cucurbita ficifolia).The mRNA secondary structures of translation domains in the reported sequences were predicted using Zuker's prediction,respectively.

The Lardizabalaceae was cladistically analyzed based 43 morphological characters.The parsimonious analysis was conducted and 68 equally most parsimonious trees were generated.50% majority rule consensus tree of those trees was basically consistent with the tribal classifications of Takhtajan and Qin.The designated outgroup Sargentodoxa was resolved as sister to Boquila,which was similar to the results of Loconte et al.,but was different from the molecular-data-based results.
