The normal hypogaeous stem of Paris polyphylla Sm.var. yunnanensis (Fr.) Hand.-Mazz. is amyloid, which contains 2.56% of polysaccharides (FP). The hypogaeous stem is converted into colloid by parasiting of Periconia Tode and other microbes, which contains 5.44% of polysaccharides (JP). The animal experiment in vivo shows that FP and JP have evident immune enhancement. These results indicate that the medical value of colloidal hypogaeous stem is the same as amyloid. They are of equal use for medicine.

In a previous paper, we reported the isolation and structure elucidation of three eudesmane sesquiterpenoids from Laggra Pterodenta. As a continuation of the studies on the biologically active constituents of this plant, we have got another four new eudesmane sesquiterpenoids from it. By spectral evidences, their structures are elucidated as 5,l2-diene eudesmane 13-oic acid(1); 1β-hydroxy-5,12-diene eudesmane l3-oic acid(2) 3β-hydroxy-5,l2-diene eudesmane 13-oic acid(3) and 2α,3β-dihydroxy-5,12-diene eudesmane 13-oic acid(4). They are named as Pterodontic acid(1);1β-hydroxy Pterodontic acid(2); 3β-hydroxy Pterodontic acid(3) and 2α,3P-dihtdroxy Pterodontic acid(4).

A hairy root system of Cyanotis arachnothea C. B. Clarke has been established from its intact plants, and the root and leaf explants by using a wild strain pRi 15834 of Agrobacterium rhizogenes. The hairy roots grew well on MS hormone free agar medium. Mannopine was charac-terized in the transformed roots by paper electrophoresis and high performance thin layer chromatography. The genomic DNA analysisof the hairy roots was carried out by Southern hybridization and chemiluminescent detection. The rolc bacteria gene existed in the nuclear genome of the roots. This indicated that T-DNA of Ri plasmid was inserted into plant DNA. The hairy root system of C.arachnonda is one of the fewexamples of monocotyledous plants for inducing hairy roots.

Phlox Drummondii Hook, is an important and famous horticulture plant. In the experi-ments, embryoids were obtained when leaf explants of P.drummondii Hook were cultured on MS solid medium supplemented with 0.1 mg / L NAA and 2 mg / L 6-BA. The cultured materials were fixed with Carnoy's fluid and prepared for paraffin sections, and stained with iron alum haematoxylin. There were two ways in the embryogenesis: One is that the differentiated cells of leaf explants with certain function dedifferentiated into embryonic cells, e.g. leaf epidermal cells, mesophyll cells, boundle sheath cells and phloem parenchyma cells were all able to do it. The other is that, at first, leaf explants dedifferentiated into calli and formed many meristem centers, and then vascular systems occurred near them, and in the end, embryonic cells or meristem cell masses were produced around them. The embryonic cells formed through these two ways possesed a developmental process similar to general zygotic embryoes with the proembryos of 2~ 4 cells, ball and the embryoids of heart, torpedo or with cotyledons. The embryoid with double polarities finally developed further into the intact plantlet.

The karyotypes of Dipylleia sinensis and Dysosma veitchii are reported in this paper for the first time. The karyotype formula of the former is K(2n)= l2 = 8m(4SAT)+2st+2t. and that for the latter is K(2n) = 4m (2 SA T)+4 sm+2 st (2 SAT )+2t, both belonging to 2A type. The karyo types of SinopodoPhyllum hexandrum and Dysosma vershalliS reported in this paper are somewhat different from those in previous reports, i.e. the karyotype formula of the former being K(2n)=l2= 6m (4SAT)+2sm+2st+2t, 2B type, and that for the latter being K (2n) = 12 = 8m(2SAT)+ 2st(2SAT)+2t, 2A type. Two pairs of chromosomes are observed with secondary constriction in both species.

In the present paper, karyological studies were carried out in two species and one variety of Ranunculus L.from China. Their chromosome numbers and karyotypes are all reported here for the first time. Ranunculus japonicus Thunb. var. ternatifolius L.Liao shows two different karyotypes i.e. common-type 2n = 2x= 14= 6m+4sm+4st(2SAT) and heterozygous type 2n = 2x= 14= 6m+4sm+4st(1SAT). The former karyotype characteristic is that the satellite is larger. The latter karyotype variations are the occurrence of heteromorphous homologous chromosomes of second pair and the sixth pair SAT chromosome posses only one satellite; Ranunculus dopsus DC. karyotype formula is 2n = 4x = 32 = 10m+8sm+12st(2SAT)+2t(2SAT). It consists of two different genomes. One of them is that the satellite is far larger than the short arm. The other is that the satellite is smaller than the short arm, Ranunculus silerifolius Levl. karyotype formula is 2n = 4x = 32 = 8m+6sm+18st(4SAT). It consists of four chromosome sets which is basicly similar in karyotype.

Microsporogenesis and male gametophyte formation in Dolichos lablab L.were examined by using transmission electron-microscopy. It is the first time to be observed that the plastids and mitochondria have undergone two cycles of dedifferentiation and redifferentiation during the pro- cess of microsporogenesis and pollen development. In the first cycle the dedifferentiation of plastids and mitochondria occurs at prophase I of meiosis and the redifferentiation at telophase II. The second cycle is from dedifferentiation of plastids and mitochondria at late microspore stage to redifferentiation of plastids at early 2-celled pollen stage and of mitochondria at late 2-celled pollen. From the early microspore to the late 2-celled pollen stages, the golgi bodies are abundant. They are involved in the formation of both nexine and intine of pollen. The wall ingrowths of pri-mary intine of early 2-celled pollen enlarge the surface areas of the vegetative cell plasma mem-brane, and may facilitate the uptake of nutrients from the anther locule.

The pollen morphology of 8 species and 2 varieties of the Tribe Brassiceae from China and other countries was examined under LM and SEM. 4 speces and 2 varieties were palynologically reported here for the first time. The results showed that the pollen morphology of the Brassiceae above-mentioned was consistent basically, but some difference between them in pollen size, aperture (Crambe abyssinica, 4-colpate) and eaine sculpture was found. The present paper also found that the pollen size of these species might have certain correlationship with their chromosome numbers.

The paper presented the characters of tropical forests and their secondary succession series in the Big Bend Gorge of Yalu Tsangpo River, S.E.Tibet, E.Himalayas. In the region the tropical forests occur in the bottom of the gorge at an altitude between 600-1200 m, which belong to the low mountain semi-evergreen tropical rain forests, and include mainly three types as follows: Altingia excelsa+ Terminalia myriocarpe forest; Altingia excelsa+ Lagerstroemia mimuticar pa forest and Altingia excelsa forest. The natural and artificial factors causing the destruction of the original vegetation were discussed. The factors led to two different secondary succession series of the semiuevergreen tropical rain forest.

East China and Japan are very important parts in subregion Sino-Japanese. There are more similarities between them. Both of them contain the same families endemic to East Asia, such as Cercidiphyllaceae, Cephalotaxaceae, Eupteleaceae, Stachyuraceae etc. Both of them also share many genera of Sino Japanese distribution pattern, such as Cryptomeria, Disanthus,Berchemiella etc. Both of them contain about 830 species of Sino-Japanese distribution pattern, such as Peltoboykinia tellimoides, Kirengeshoma polmata, Platycrater ayguta, Chikusichloa aquatica, Neolitsea sericea, Theligonum japonicum etc. The vicarious species and paleobotany data also indicate the closer floristic relatonship between East China and Japan.

Corydalis DC.is a largest genus in the family Fumariaceae, and large one of those that are distributed in North Temperate. Since this genus was established there has been no complete classification system and there have been a lot of disputes even in the nominator of the genus, the generic lectotype, subgeneric classifiction and so on. According to the study and arrangement of the type specimens or authentic materials from China and neighbouring countries of both S. & E. Asia and kept in both Chinese herbaria and important herbaria abroad, this paper has for the first time classified this genus into two groups, i.e. Corydalis and Pistolochia, and 40 sections that have constituted a complete and original evolutional systom.
