A new ursane type triterpene compound, 3-oxo-22a-hydroxy- ursan-12-en-30-oic acid (30, 22a)-lactone named hypoglaulide (1), and two known compounds, triptotriterpenic acid C (H) and regelin (in), were isloated from the ethyl acetate soluble frac-tion of the alcohol extract of the root of Tripterygium hypoglaucum (Levl.) Levl. ex Hutch, by the means of column chromatography. Their structures were established on the basis of spec-tral and chemical methods.

Qualitative and quantitative analysis of the essential oils steam distilled from the aer ial parts of Saussurea arenaria, S.iodostegia and S.japonica by means of capillary gas chromatography and GC / MS spectrometry. The relative contents of the components in the essential oils were calculated by means of area of normalization. In Saussurea arenaria, S.iodostegia and S.japonica, the 37, 69 and 29 components were identified, respectively.

C-7 and C-8 are oligosaccharins extracted from Dendrobium candidum, G-7 and G-8 are oligosaccharins from Panax ginseng. The purple herb pigment content was increased by C-8 in 0.paniculatum callus the most significantly among the four kinds of oligosaccharins, and its pigment content was 5.795 ± 0.024 mg / g DW being 3.27 fold of the content in control callus.

Protoplasts isolated from monokaryotic mycelia of Lentinus edodes were spread on CM containing 0.6 mol /1 sucrose and irradiated for 30 seconds. After colonies formed, they were transplanted on MM anfl those showing little growth were detected further. 7 auxotrophic mutants were obtained at last, among which 3 mutants remained stable after protoplast isolation, regeneration and mycelial subculture on CM slant for 3 times. They can be used in protoplast fusion in later studies, despite their protoplast yields were low and have to be improved.

The upper leaves of anther donor plants of barley bearing anthers at the early uninucleate stage of pollen were sprayed with BA 5, 20 and 50 mg/1 containing 0.1 TWeen-80. The effects of BA-spraying on anther cultures were as follows:1.Treated with 0.1 TWeen-80 (CK n), the formation of pollen callus in barley anthers was increased, and treated with BA 5 mg /1 containing 0.1 TWeen-80, the formation of pol-len callus was further increased.

In this paper the karyotypes of Roegneria komarovii (Nevski) Nevski, R.fedtschenkoi (Tzvel.) J.L.Yang et B.R.Lu and R. caucasica Nevski were analysed. The karyotype formulae are as follows: R.komarovii: 2n= 4x= 28= 24m+ 2sm+ 2sat; R.fedtschenkoi: 2n= 4x= 28= 24m+ 2sm+ 2sat; R.caucasica: 2n= 4x= 28= 22m+ 2sm+ 4sat. The karyotpyes of R.komarovii, R.fedtschenkoi and R.caucasica fall into "2A" type.

The seasonal development of secondary phloem of 23 species of deciduous trees dis-tributed naturally or introduced on Hainan Island in tropical area of China was studied using microscopy. The functional phloem thickness in main trunk and branchlet of 6 species of the trees wen determined systematically and for the rest trees a comparision of functional phloem thickness in main trunk was made between leaf-absent and leaf-bearing period. According to the characteristics of phloem development in main trunk of the trees studied, they can be di-vided into three groups. The trees in the first group have a functional phloem in leaf-absent pe-riod with a thickness over 70 as that in leaf-bearing period.

On the basis of the previous studies with light microscopy, we attempted to use TEM observing the early development of the endosperm in Nitraria sibirica Pall. The endosperm undergoes three developmental phase: free nuclear endosperm, cellularization, and disintegrative and absorbtive phase. At the free nuclear stage, the nuclei are surrounded by mass of dense cytoplasmic matrix.

Nearly 30 species of Ligusticum occur in China. This paper deals with the petiolar anatomy of 21 species (25 samples) in the genus. The anatomical characters of 21 species are very diverse and listed in Table 1 and Plates I, II Comparing the petiolar anatomy of 8 populations belonging to 4 species, it is shown that the anatomical characters of petioles in Ligusticum possess certain stability except with some variations of numbers of vascular bundles within a species, and can be used as a useful taxonomical evidence.

There were two different views about the status of the monotytic genus Roborowskia Batalin, since it was established in 1893 based upon the Roborowski's collection from KLunlun mountain. As far as it has been treated as an endemic genus of China by some botanists without regard to the advices ofHutchinson (1921), Lid6n (1986), and so on. They had ever pointed out that it is perhaps not distinguishable from Corydalis and had better to be a section of Corydalis.

This paper deals with the classification, evolution and distribution of Sect. Thea. The results of these studies may be summarized as follows: 1) In the last years, a great number of new species in Sect.Thea and Sect.Glaberrima are re-ported. Acceding to the investigation and comparative studies on two Sections and about 47 species, Sect.Glaberrima is merged into Sect.Thea, 12 species and 5 varieties are determined in Sect.Thea.
