Melasma arvense (Benth.) H.-M. (Scrophulariaceae) is a folk medicine in Yunnan. From the aqueous soluble fraction of its roots, melasmoside, a new monoterpenoid glucoside, has been obtained by chromatography on active charcoal. The structure of melasmoside was suggested as (1 ) by chemical reactions, spectroscopic analysis and X-ray analysis.

Capparis masaikai Levl. with a native name Mabinlang is distributed in Yunnan of China. Its mature seeds are used as chinese medicine and posgess sweet taste. The sweet principle has been established to be a basic protein, hetein named mabinlin- The protein is extracted from lipid-free seed;bowier with water at 45℃, and precipitated with 60% saturation of (NH4)2SO4 at pH7, and then precipitated with 2 volumes of acetone from the dialyzed aqueous solution of protein. The solid albumin preparation contains 16.5% of N, and its yield is about 7.2% on dry weight of decorticated seeds. It contains four protein components A,B, C, D wit relative mobility of 0.46, 0.51, 0.73 and 0.89 respectively in 15% pdlyactlamide gel electrophoresis (pH 4.3). Thdse trohipo- nents are separated from each other by using CM-sephadex c-50 column chro- matography and thydroxyapatite column chromatography. Only the component D tastes sweet.

The effect of four culture media on the germination of seeds of Cymbidium goeringii was studied. MS medium is superior to SH/2, VW and Knudson media. The peicentages of germination of seeds in different maturity were calcu- lated. About three months before the dehiscence of the capsule, the seeds are ready for germination. The effects of hormones on the differentiation of the rhizomes were studied. When the amount of NAA added to the medium is greater than that of BA, the rhizomes remain to form rhizomes; when BA is greater than NAA, the rhizomes differentiate to form buds. But, if the buds are transfered into the medium without hormone or with 10% coconut milk, the buds stop to grow and new rhizomes grow out from the basal portions of the buds.

The authors attempt through the analysis of floral composition to demonstrafe that the main forest vegetation in southern Yunnan is a part of tropical forest in Asia. However, the forest possesses obviously local characters because of the distribution have reached the limited range of the latitude and a1titude. The northern limit of the tropical forest and its floral composition distributed in Yunnan has been identified by the general distribution regularity through the analysis of fifty common plants and some pure tropical families and genera. And all the plants here were incorporated into four disfributional types. i. e.
