Using isotopic labelling technique (with 32P. 15N. 86Rb), we demonstrated that Gastrodia elata Bl. might draw nutrients from the soil besides their main nutritional source Armillariella mellea (Vahl. ex Fr) Karst. Hence the soil may considered as its second nutritional source. The nutritional components in the soil(fertilizer)are able to enter Gartrodia elata directly or indirectly though the mediation of Armillariella mellea. They may influence the interrelationship between Gastrodia elata and Armillariella mellea, and the growth of the former. Therefore, the study of the influence of fertilization technique on the yield and quality of Gastrodia elata is of signifi- cance.

Aeschynanthus is a bigger genus in the family of Gesneriaceae. It contains about 140 species of five sections, and distributes from Sikkim, Bhutan, E.In- dia, SW and S.China then through Burma, Thailand, Vietnam to Indonesia to the east. There aro about 31 species and 2 varieties in China. But most of them mainly distributed in Yunnan province, only 3 species i. e. Aeschynanthus monigerae (Merr.) Chun (distributed in Hainan), A. apicidens Hance (distri- buted in N. Guangdong) and A. levipes C. B. Clarke (distributed in SE. Xizang) are not found in that province, so that the revision of the genus Aes- chynanthus in Yunnan is a necessary step for the Gesneriaceae Flora of China. After identifying all the specimens of the genus in the Kunming Institute of Bo-tany, I founded that there are seven new recorded and two undescribed species in China, The seven new rccorded spccies are A. wardii Merr., A. tubulosus Anthony, A. lineatus Craib, A. macranthus (Merr.) Pellegr. of Sect. Haplo-trichium Benth., A. maculatus Lindl. of Sect. Diplotrichium Benth. and A.longicaulis Wall. ex R. Br., A. poilanei Pellegr. of Sect. Polytrichium Benth.

The identity of Polypodium clathratum Clarke(Lepisorus clathratus Ching)has been established and the confusion into which it has been thrown for a century has been clarified by the present study, which reveals for the first time that the species as heretofore accepted by different authors since the time of Cl-arke is a complex consisting of over a dozen distinct but superficially related pecies in the Sino-Himalayan region as far as Japan to the east, while L.cla-thratus(s.sir.)is confined tothe Himalayas only.

The calluses and adventitious buds can be induced from the leaf explant of Dendranthema morifolium (Ramat.)Tzvel. by adding 0.05-0.3 mg/l β-ec- dysone together with 0.5-3.0 mg/l BA(1: 10) to the medium, but roots can not be induced. The formation of roots can be gained by putting β-ecdysone plus NAA in the medium, but buds can not be achieved. The growth of dormant axillary buds can be promoted with 0.5-4.0 mg/l β-ecdysone plus BA or NAA and the roots can be induced from the basal portions of the buds(or shoot) with 0.25-4.0 mg/l β-ecdysone in the medium. So, the effect of β-ecdysone is mainly similar to that of auxins.

Recently we have applied the method of column chromatography, prepara-tive thin layer chrornatography(PTLC), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) combined with mass-spectrometric detection, which enables us to finish the isolation and characterization of this kind of antitumor agents from 1-2 kg of sample of the plant within 1-2 months. In this experiment, we have successfully isolated and identified maytansine (I), maytanprine (II) and maytanbutine (III) from Maytenus austroyunnan- ensis S. J. Pei & Y. H. Li. and M. berberoides (W. W. Sm) S. J. Pei & Y. H. Li. respectively in this way.

Infloresccnces of hyacinth after emerged from the soil surface at different height were used. Cut the inflorescences into different parts: peduncle, rachis, pedicel and flower bud. Then cut them into suitable pieces. In vitro culture, the effect of hormones on the regeneration of bulblets on the inflorescence explants was investigated. When the culture medium was basal medium without hormones, only small bulblet primordia(about 1 mm in length) regenerated at the basal end of the rachis segments. If NAA or BA added to the medium separatily, the bulblets were rarely regenerated. When NAA and BA added together to the basal medium and the amount of NAA is less than that of BA, the bulblets are differentiated from explants. The explants of perianth and ovary require higher amount of auxins than that of rachis, pedicel and peduncle.
