In the paper, the seed oil of 46 woody species which belong to 19 fami- lies in southern Yunnan had been studied. Their physical-chemical nature- refractive index, specific gravity, saponification Yalue, acid value and iodine value were determined. Quantitative constitution of saturated and unsaturated fatty acid were analyzed.Among these 46 species, Horsfieldia pandurifolia H. H. Hu, Hors- fieldia tetratepala C. Y. Wu, Pterospermum menglungense Hsue, Loese- nerlella yunnanensis (Hu) Merr., Dracontomelon macrocarpum H. L. Li and Litsea dilleniaefolia Bai et P. H. Huang are endemic species to Xi- shuangbanna.

An unusual fatty acid was iso1ated from seed-oil of Picea jozoensis Carr. by the combined method of urea adducts formation and column chro- matography. On the basis of data obtained from GC. UV. MS. NMR. and IR,this particular fatty acid was elucidated as cis-5, 9, 12-octadecetrienoic acid.Besides, from a number of analytical results, among the fatty acids iso-lated from seed-oils of 12 species of 4 genus, Pinaceae, indigenous to northea-stern region of China, the above said particular unsaturated fatty acid being present in each case.

This paper concerns the photosynthetic characteristics of a yellow-green nucleus mutant ofricewhich was obtained in anther culture by us. The content of total chlorophyll, xanthophyll and β-carotene in the mutant leaves is about 31%, 40% and 75% of that ill normal leaves respectively; the chl a/chl b ratio of the mutant is much higher than that of normal leaves. The anal- ysis of SDS-solubilized extracts of the chloroplast lamellae shows that the major light-harvesting chl a/b protein complex of the mutant is extremely deficient, and its chl a/chl b ratio is more than 3. In the chloroplasts of mutant leaves, there are very few grana stacking, and more starch grains can be seen when leaves are exposed to sun light. The rate of CO2 assimilation of mutant leaves exposed to 20000 lux of sun light is 75% of that of normal leaves on a basis of leaf area, and is 185% on a basis of chlorophyll. The chloroplasts of the mutant may also show a much higher rate of ferricyanide Hill reaction on a basis of chlorophyll.

Crown gall strains caused by Agrobacterium tumefaciens S-1 702, C-58 have been established from sunflower hypocotyls, tobacco stems and stem pithes,carrot roots and potato tubers. The growth of galls and the appearance of teratomas were investgated. Some crown galls strains changed properties many months after induction. A sunflower crown gall strain changed its shape and growth speed seven months after induction. The teratoma of potato tuber aused by A. tumefaciens S- 1 appeared in the early stage of crown gall induction, but the teratomas arisen from two tobacco unorganized crown gall strains caused by A. tumefaciens 702 about 155 days after induction. Two tobacco crown gall strains caused by different A. tumefaciens strains have different response to phytohomone. Several teratoma strains with different differentiation have been obtained. The reversion of crown galls was investigated by means of induction with phytohormone. Plantlets have been induced from two carrot crown gall strains and two tobacco crown gall strains. All crowngall strains and teratomas produce nopaline. Nopaline was detected from the tobacco plantlet inducted from teratoma.

Based on the specimen collected from Mountain Huang Shan in Anhui Province of China during July 1956, a new species of Xerocomus astraeico-lopsis Ying et Wang is described and illustrated. This species resembles Xerocomus astraeicola Imazeki in morphological characters and parasitic habit,but differs from the latter by the characteristics that its flesh and tubes remain unchanged in colour when touched or cut, spores 9.1-10.9 (-12.3) x 4 -5.4 um honey-coloured in KOH and in Mel- zer's slightly pale brown, inamyloid., The stipe is sordid ochraceus and the pleurocystidia are significantly smaller than those of X. astraeicola. The type specimen of new species is deposited in the Herbarium Mgcologicum, Academia Sinica, Beijing, China.

Gaultheria is a genus of medium size in Ericaceae. This genus has more than 100 species. It is distributed around Pacific Ocean, westwards to western slope of Himalayas and southern part of India. There are 24 species in China (including 3 new species), of which 23 species distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan and Xizang(Tibet), being 96% of this genus in China. There are 22 species distributed in Gongshan of Yunnan, west part of baoxing of Sichuan and Chayu, Motuo of Xizang, 27°5′, -30°2′ N, 95°2′, -100°E, being 80% of this genus in eastern Asia.

Based on the very recently described Adoxa omeiensis Hara, Tetradoxa C. Y. Wu is raised as second new genus in the Adoxaceae, in making this formerly monotypic family to 3-generic. A thorough comparison among Tetra-doxa, Adoxa and Sinadoxa is made and the infrafamiliar evolution being widely discussed. The systematic position of the family is also elucidated according to the palynological data by SEM.
