Shoot tips and annual or biennial stem nodes of Rhaphido phora decursiva (Roxb.) Schott have been cultured on Murashige and Skoog ( MS ) me-dium supplemanted with 6-BA, IAA, NAA (can be omitted), and 10 coconut milk, All the dormant buds in shoot tips and stem nodes are able to sprout. When the dormant buds grow out 4-5 cuphylla and the plants reach about 7cm long, they are excised from explants and transplanted to the fresh MS medium. As the aerial roots grow out, the complete and aseptic plantlets are obtained. The surface sterilization of biennial stem nodes, however, is relatively difficult.

Carbon-13 NMR spectra of a number of natural (-) ent-kauranoids have been studied. The rule of change in chemical shifts produced by the change of substituents has been summarized ( be published somewhere ). By above-mentioned rule, chemical structure of bulleyanin has been altered as lα, 3β, 7β, 11β-te-tra-acetoxy-12α-hydroxy-ent-kaur-16-en-15-one ( 1 ).

There are 28 components inden-tified by GC/MS in the essential oil on Finnigan-4510 instrument. The major components are eugunol (41.64%), linalool (9.26%),nonadecane (6.73%), hepta-decane (4.81%), geraniol (4.53%), benzyl methanol ( 3.55 % ), 1-heptadeccne (3.91%), cinnamic aldehyde (3.43%) , ethyl benzoate (2.88% ) , trans-linalool oxide (0.98%). The essential oil has a fragrant aroma, and the effect of raising and stabilizing the aroma of the essence used in cosmetics and so on, as well the effect of sterilization and antisepsis in foods and medicine. This scientific research will provide scientific basis for the exploitation and application of the plants resou-rce of Rosa cymosa.

Abstract Plants of Loranthaceae did selectively harm io some plants, specially to partial trees and shrubs of dicotyledon in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan. Liana of dicotyledons and plants of gymnosperms were harmed little. Harmed ferns and monocotyledons have not been found. The harm of Loranthaceae is closely related to their adaptations to trees and environments, their biological features and natural regeneration abilities.

Abstract The Asian genus Mosia comprises over 20 species of which about half occurs in China. The present paper deals mainly with an analysis of the phenctic variation patterns of populations of the five species of Mosia occurring in the Yangtze Delta region using numerical taxonomic methods complemented by data of ecology, cytology and seed set after sclfing in order to evaluate the overall phonetic relationships among the species in the context of the characters used and to make some meaningful ideas concerning the phylogenetic affinities of the taxa in question.

Under the studies of physiological-ecological laws on high-yielding culture of rice (Oryza saliva L.) in the plateau in 1983-1985, we had made a comparison between dry-matter production and partitioning after top dressing with nitrogenous fertilizer (urea) of rice grown at three localities, i. e., Yuanjiang (dry-heat river valley about 400 m altitude) , Kunming (warm-cool plateau lake-shore about 1900 m altitude) and Lijiang (cold-cool plateau area about 2400 m altitude) in Yunnan province. The treatments of top dressing, on the basis of 20 kg/mu urea applied as a basal dressing, were applied with 10 kg/mu urea at the young panicle differentiation, spikelet differentiation and reduction division stage (these stages of fertilizer application are briefly known as early, middle and lain car manuring) respectively.

A series of experiments were conducted to improve the induction of in vitro tuberization of potato. The results showed that a length of shoot with 3 to 4 nodes cut off from in vitro potato plantlet could be proliferated to 3^2 to 4^2 shoots in 2 to 3 weeks when it was cultured in static shallow liquid Murashige-Skoog medium which had been added with some growth agents. Then these shoots would initiate tuberization in 1 to 3 weeks just after replacing the existing medium by the tuber inducing medium into the same container. In another 3 to 4 weeks, these tuberlets matured and were capable of sprouting. They could be harvested as virusfrce prebasic seedpotatoes for cither further propagation or direct utilization. By this improved method, the process of the propagation of virusfrce tuberlets was much accelerated. Also the cost of material and labor was decreased and the quantity of the virusfree prebasic seedpotatoes was greatly increased. The effects of hormones and the application of the improved management to the production of the virusfree seedpotatoes, are discussed in this paper.

Three polysaccharides, named candiduman I, II and III, have been isolated and purified from Dendrobium candidum. They were shown to be 1iomo-geneous by electrophoresis and gel chromatography. According to IR,1H and 13C NMR, acid hydrolysis and determination of 0-acetyl group, they were identified as the 0-acetylglucomannan. From the results of Smith degradation, partial acid hydrolysis and methylation analysis, it was concluded that the polysaccharides possessed backbone consisting of repeating some 8-(l-3)-linked D-mannopyranosyi residues and one β-(l-4) -linked D-glucopyranosyi residue, and probably possessed branched chains consisting of β-(l-4) -linked D-glucopyranosyi residues and p-pentose end groups. Side chains are atta-ched to 2-, 3-, or 6- of D-glucopyranosyi, residues of backbone. Their average molecular weights were estimated to be ca. 1 000 000(I ), 500 000(II), 120 000 (III) respectively by gel chromatography.

An anti-fungal protein named GAFP was isolated and purified from the terminal corm of Gastrodia elata Bl. 4 p-g of this protein impregnated in a paper disc on potato glucose agar medium inhibited obviously mycelial spread of Trichoderma reessei, About 20 mg of GAFP was obtained from 1 kg of fresh corm. Only the external part of corm contains this protein, whereas no GAFP was detected in inner part of corm. SDS-PAGE and gel filtration on sephadex G50 showed that GAFP is a single polypetide with MW=14.0 kD, and pI =8.1, determined by binding test of the protein on SP-Sephadex C50. The protein is rich in Asn, Gly, Ala and Leu, but lacks Met, Pro and Cys. GAFP can not give colour reaction with Coomassie blue reagent except that the protein is dena-tured by heat or SDS treatment. It was shown not to be of exochitinase and β-1, 3-glucanase activity. GAFP is thought to play an important role in the defense mechanism of the yearly terminal corm to prevent the infection of fungi.

Two sweet proteins named mabinlin I and mabinlin II (Ma I , Ma I) with MW. 11.6 kD and 10.4 kD respectively had been isolated. By using Edman degradation and the method of reversed phase HPLC identification of PTH-aa, it were found that the N-terminuses of both proteins are blocked because of cyclization of pyroglutamic acid. The pyrrolidone was opened by treatment with 1 mol/l HCl-methanol at 35°C for 24 h. The eight amino acid sequence of N-terminal peptide was pyroglutamic acid-Pro-Arg-Gly-Pro-Ala-Leu-Arg-in both proteins. Dynamic analysis of the enzymatic products by carboxypeptidasc showed that the amino acid sequence of C-terminal peptide is -Phe-Gln-Leu-Ala-Scr in Ma II , and -Phe Gin-Leu-Ala in Ma II . the result means that even though the Ma II lack a Ser residue at C-terminus the main difference of the two sweet proteins is not- in the amino acid sequences of both C- and N- terminal regions.
